Why Littering Is Not Cool

by Kayley Kennell

Have you ever seen anyone throw a candy wrapper or piece of plastic on the sidewalk? I sure have, and I know it’s a terrible world when people do.

My family and I were missionaries in Belarus. When I would play with my friends outside, there was trash everywhere. It wasn’t as fun to play with that garbage in my way. Often I would see children eating candy and then just throwing the wrapper in the street. It made everything look very messy.

Now my family has moved back to America, and we have a puppy. One day she was out exploring; she found a glass bottle and brought it home. Luckily we saw her and took it away before it rolled down the steps. It could have broken and cut her.

Do you know why we litter? It’s because we’re careless and lazy. We don’t care about the animals God made to run free and have a fresh, clean place to live. We don’t seem to care that there are animals choking on pieces of plastics or getting injured by broken glass.

How can we stop littering? We can be a good example to those around us by throwing our bottles, candy wrappers, or any other garbage in the trash. We can tell them how dangerous it is to the animals when we litter and ask them to spread the news to their friends that littering is not cool!
