We Care Prison Crusade-Alabama

We Care Prison Crusade-Alabama

Each year for the last 27 years, We Care Program has conducted a prison crusade in Alabama.  Starting at Fountain Correctional Center in Atmore in 1978, the event has grown over the years. This year, the Lord willing, volunteers from over 100 different churches and as many as 20 different states and provinces will be taking the Gospel message to eighteen prisons (15 men's & 3 women's) in Atmore, Montgomery, Birmingham and Troy areas, home to 17,858 inmates.  We Care’s long-standing relationship with the Alabama Department of Corrections gives them the freedom to visit the interiors of these prisons in a way that is both rare and unique in breadth and scope.

Following a day of orientation,  volunteers will gather each morning in regional groups for breakfast, worship, and teaching.  Following the morning’s activities, teams will then disperse to their respective prisons to spend the remainder of the day.  Volunteers canvass the prison yards, dormitories (allowed in most prisons), hall ways, and eating areas witnessing, encouraging, praying, playing sports, building friendships, and inviting men and women to the evening chapel service.  Each night a different musical group and evangelist offer the Hope of the gospel in a very dark environment.

The impact of this ministry is far-reaching.  An unusual sense of calm covers over the prison during the crusade and beyond; officers are encouraged, Christian inmates are challenged, and sinners meet God.  Volunteers, reminded of their own inadequacies, depend on God in greater than usual ways, find freedom in service and worship, and experience an aspect of the kingdom living not common to most church-goers.

How can you be a part of this mission effort?  Pray. Experience has showed that a network of stay-at-home prayer volunteers is the key to spiritual breakthroughs during the crusade. In addition each team member has enlisted a personal intercessor who will be in communication with the team member and also receive bulletins with specific request and praises from various prisons during the crusade.
