Virginia Relief Sale

Ivan Lehman organized the grinding of 1500 lbs. of cornmeal and 500 lbs. of whole wheat at the Virginia Relief Sale, October 2, 2003, at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds in Harrisonburg.

On Thursday before the sale, the ladies held a pie-baking day at the church. They baked 56 apple and 15 blackberry pies. A few more were added later, including some pecan, to bring the total to approximately 90 pies. Numerous loaves of fresh baked bread were baked and the Girls Club made 12 dozen cookies.

The Country Love quilt donated by Women’s Outreach brought $575. A long-stitched cheater’s cloth quilt brought $200 and a wool comforter $325.

The youth helped to sell cornmeal.
