Team Happenings

The LOCAL OUTREACH TEAM organized a work day with Habitat for Humanity’s Critical Repair in October.  A roof needed repair, and several from our church, plus a few other people, joined with Terry Paquette on this job.  The roof was completed in one day, leaving the task of fixing the stove pipe and running it through the roof, which was completed by another group; wood stove repair by Wally.

There will be other opportunities to take part in minor repairs.  If you didn’t have the privilege of helping with this project, you can help on another one, showing our community that we care.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the construction and to those who prepared and served lunch.

The Local Outreach Team encouraged our participation in the Food Bank Thanksgiving project.  We filled twenty grocery bags with food for a holiday meal and added Food Lion gift cards for meat.  Other community churches and individuals also participated in this way of giving thanks.

The Harvest Party was a big success with Powhatan Christian   Fellowship joining us for an evening of games, food, fellowship,  and music.

The Women’s Ministry Team: Slumber parties are fun for women of any age!  All PMC ladies, ages 15-100, were invited to Debbie Vaughn’s home for a night of fun and fellowship October 21-22.  Many of the games and some of the refreshments highlighted the evening’s theme of ladybugs.  Each guest was asked to bring a “ladybug” gift and an outfit she had worn, and the “fashions” were modeled by Becca Benson, Renel Kennell, Allie and Dawn Landis, and Lisa Petersheim.  Amid much laughter, everyone tried to guess which outfit belonged to whom!

Lady Bug Cake made by Allie Landis Doris Ranck planned a fun, relaxing evening.

Media Team: The new team leader is Andy Powell.

Finance Team:   The financial statement for our church budget as of October 1 is as follows:

Balance on hand $53,472.80. Amount available for budget payments $37,261.98

The Adult Christian Education Team is planning an alternate Sunday School class on the book of Romans. This study will be the class for all adults and young adults, beginning March 4 through May 27. Glen Landis will teach the book and looks forward to this focused time together, confident that God is true when He says His Word will not return to Him void, but will prosper the things He sends it to.

The Missions Team just finished Penny Power, which raised $638.98 for sand dams in Tanzania and clean water wells in Haiti. Arnold and Gerri Polk’s ministries in Ghana and other African nations will benefit from $1,500 donated for a mud-block machine to be used in constructing buildings.  The team is sponsoring Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes, which will be collected the week of November 14, and Angel Tree the beginning of December. We are grateful for opportunities to give this Christmas season.

The Worship Team continues to seek God’s heart as we prepare for our Sunday morning worship services. Our time of worship is not about programs, personalities, sermons, or music style, although the latter can be conducive to worship.  Thanksgiving and Christmas provide opportunities to focus on special themes; our Christmas theme will be  “The Gift of Christmas.”  Christmas Day our service will be a special celebration focusing on Jesus, the true gift of Christmas. There will be no Sunday School. We will have cookies and hot cider at 10:30, followed by our service at 11:00.

The Youth/Young Adult Ministries Team:

In September twelve youth and young adults took a day hike on Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park.  We relished a packed lunch at the top, had beautiful weather, and enjoyed a great day all around!  We also spent a Saturday cutting wood to support the team’s activities and community projects.  The youth and young adults continue once-a-month Bible studies with Ed Ranck.

Children’s Ministry Team:  The 2011/2012 Good News Club started up again this fall at the Powhatan Elementary School. We now have about thirty children attending. Through Bible stories, songs, Bible memory, games, and lots of fun, we are teaching these children about God’s great love for them.

Most of our workers are now from PMC, with a few from Red Lane Baptist and one from Powhatan Christian Fellowship.  Four new helpers have joined us this year from PMC. We are looking forward to continuing the club through the beginning of April.
