From the Pastor’s Heart
God is for "Sissies" There are people who live their lives thinking God is for sissies. They live their own lives and do quite well. They have good families, good jobs and may even go to church and they even believe that there is a God. But they don’t really "use" God or allow Him to be God of their lives. One can talk about God, prayer and Jesus and you can see that they think that’s nice but not really necessary in their life. "Everything is under control and I’m in the driver’s seat of my own life," they proclaim. Well, this seems an easy call. These people need a salvation experience of Jesus Christ. But I am highly suspicious that we Christians sometimes fall into that same thought that God is the last place where we turn when when all other efforts fail. God is where you turn when you can’t take care of the problem yourself. Why is it so hard to admit we need help? Why is it a weakness to say, "I can’t handle this?" We North Americans Christians are pretty self-sufficient. But we need help! We have so many besetting sins and the way we deal with it many times is to bring God down to our standards. I say we keep God’s standards where they belong, put up the white flag of human effort and let God so some miraculous things in our lives. I say ... Let God empower our minds. Let God empower our actions. Let God miraculously work out a situation. Let us seek God first in a situation, not last. We must believe that God makes a difference. It makes a difference if I pray for someone. It makes a difference if I pray in the mornings. It makes a difference if I ask God to give me understanding before I open up His word. It makes a difference if I ask Him to fill me that day. IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE! Do you believe it? We need God. Sometimes it takes a fresh wound for us to realize anew how much we depend on God. Let’s meet God every morning and walk with Him through each day. By Tim Kennell
