Mission/Service Outreach

Mission trip to Southwest China

On September 26, Brady and Crystal Hochstetler, along with friends Ethan and Julian are heading to the Tibetan plateau in Southwest China to hand out radios to the nomads living there.  At a predetermined time, the radios will deliver the gospel message in the nomads’ language.  Brady and Crystal will spend most of their time traveling by bus and horseback to reach the remote areas.  Along the way they hope to hand out Chinese Bibles to people they meet.

The group covets our prayers, as Tibet is where the most radical Buddhists live.   Crystal’s brother Andrew would like to go along if all the details can be worked out.   The group plans to return October 10.

                                         Grape Harvest in Israel

Meghan Schaefer left Powhatan on August 16 to begin her journey to the West Bank in Israel to help with the grape harvest.  She will be traveling with friends of the family, Tommy and Sherri Waller and their eleven children, who go to Israel for at least three months each year.  They are flying out of New York on August 26 and will be arriving home November 17.

During their time there they will be helping some Israeli mothers with their children and doing some carpentry before the intense three-week grape harvest starts the middle of September.  Gene and Leah, Meghan’s father and sister, will be flying out of  Washington, DC, September 20 to join the group for the last two weeks of harvest.

Meghan is excited about this opportunity to stretch her faith, work and tour the Holy Land, and swim in the Jordan River and Dead Sea.
