Mission Outreaches
Looking at all that God
has done in growing this organization has been incredible. The South Carolina
hub was started in 2004 and we had 2 Silver Ring Thing events that year. In 2005
we conducted 4 events. In 2006 we jumped to 10 events. This year we have had 4
events so far, and we’ve already reached almost as many students as we did in
all of 2006. Our current totals are: · over
12,000 have attended shows in SC · over
7,700 rings have been purchased as a sign of pledges of purity · over
1,000 students have responded to the Gospel presentation. We are very excited
because God has recently opened the door for us to bring our message to the
incarcerated youth at the Department of Juvenile Justice.
This will be the first time that a Silver Ring Thing event will be held
behind bars and the chaplains are so excited to have us come. Last year also
marked our first public school event and since then we have been in four other
public schools across the state. SRSC is part of an
international organization that has hubs throughout the USA, South Africa, and
the United Kingdom. To date there have been over 83,000 students who have taken
our purity pledge and wear a silver ring. For more information you can visit our
website at www.silverringthing.sc
or our national website at www.silverringthing.com On a personal note, I
bought a house about 8 months ago and have been busily trying to get grass
growing in the backyard this spring. I have been attending a great church, East
Lake Community Church, for a couple years now where I occasionally help in the
youth ministry or with the creative side of our Sunday morning services. Casey Walton
On
Thursday, May 23 Carmen Lehman will be traveling with a group from Liberty
University to the Amazon region of Brazil for a two-week medical and
evangelistic missions trip. The
group will be visiting some very remote and primitive villages along the river.
These people have very little or no access to medical treatment and do
not have the ability to purchase many of the items we take for granted.
The group has collected and will be taking along a large supply of
sunglasses, toothbrushes, toothpaste, cold and cough medicines, antacids,
multivitamins, Neosporin, Hydrocortisone cream,
and Band-Aids. Thanks to all who donated items.
Carmen is very excited
to be a part of the team and to use her medical skills in this mission outreach.
Pray for the team as the use this medical service to open hearts and have
opportunity to share the gospel the people of the Amazon. They will be returning
to the States June 2. |
