Christians Believe
Chapter
1. The Rival Conceptions of
God
1.
What do Christians believe?
a.
They believe in one creator
God
(along
with Jews and Moslems)...as opposed to atheist (which believe the world to
be only material)
b.
They believe in a transcendent God (not
a pantheistic god)
2.
What do you think?
Lewis writes,
“I
have been asked to tell you what Christians believe and I am going to
begin by telling you one thing that Christians do not need to believe.
If
you are a Christian, you do not have to believe that all the other
religions are simply wrong all through.”
(II.1.1)

Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you

great campaign of sabotage”. (II.2.12)

My Thoughts
Thought: Theology is loving
God with my mind.
I.5 Here five chapters of
thinking condenses....there is no use giving people the comfort of
Christianity unless they are willing to face its terror. The good
news is only for sick people.
a.
b. "you find out
more about God from the Moral Law than from the universe in general just
as you find out more about a man by listening to his conversation than by
looking at a house he has built. I.5.2)
c. "If you look for
truth, you may find comfort in the end: if you look for comfort you not
get either comfort or truth-only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin
with and, in the end, despair. (I.5.4)
Romans 3: 19 "...whatever
the law says...that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may
become guilty ('held accountable' NIV) before God."
My Thoughts
Transcendent
God stands outside the universe and created it.
Pantheistic God
is dwelling inside the creation (trees, animals, wood) making them holy
like God.
