Worship Transcends Language Barriers
My favorite part of learning the Spanish language thus far
has been singing songs in Spanish. This might be because I have a personal
"bent" towards music (especially worship songs), but it is also
a good way to practice pronunciation and learn new vocabulary. It makes it
sound like you know more Spanish than you really do! After a few lessons
on phonetics (letter sounds), it is really not all that difficult to
pronounce Spanish words because the letters always make the same sounds
unlike their English counterparts.
Since Sunday morning worship services are completely in
Spanish, there has been very little spoken that we could understand.
However, almost immediately we were able to join in with worship through
song, which has been very spiritually encouraging and uplifting. Much to
our pleasure, the worship time often lasts for the first hour of a
three-hour service. In general, the music is louder and more upbeat than
we have been accustomed to, but that has not been a problem. Spanish is
often described as a "passionate" language, and therefore it is
most appropriate that it be used to express praise and adoration to the
One who is Lord of all tongues, tribes, and nations!
Although these days of language learning can at times be very stretching,
we are thankful for the ways we see God’s hand at work in our lives and
for the encouragement He brings along the way. We are so thankful for your
prayers and support. May God bless you for the many ways that you continue
to richly bless us.
