Chasing The Wind

Across the Street and Around the World

Remember our young people in prayer that they will grow spiritually, have safe travel and good health, and will be vessels of God’s love across the street and around the world.

Renel Kennell: July 15-19th I will be going to Rosedale Bible College’s Choral Camp for grades two through eight in Plain City, Ohio. I will be a dorm counselor, teach music, and help with recreation. I love music and I am very excited about using my gifts to serve God.

Andy Powell: Andy has sensed God’s calling him to commit to another year Camp Stormer. Actually he has committed to stay through December 2003, which is more than a year. He and the director are opening a first aid clinic for emergency services in one of the cabins. Sam and Poe are leaving May 28th to take a three week jaunt up to see Andy. They are taking along first aid supplies donated by PMC. They are anxious to see Andy and will give a more detailed report when they return home!

Brian Ranck: June 18th is only a few weeks away and I am getting excited about Australia! I now have pictures of all my team members, and praying for them individually is already making them feel like "my people." So far there are 17 members - 9 girls and 8 boys. They come from as far away as California, Alaska, and Saskatchewan.

Boot Camp sounds like a lot of hard work, but it will prepare us for our field of service. There will be classes in carpentry, masonry, photography, evangelism, puppetry, letter writing, and laundry (done in a bucket with a scrub brush). We will need to complete a timed obstacles course with a mountain of tires, rope swings over a moat, a 25’ Jacob’s Ladder, the Red Sea, and a 12’ wall. This will help to unify the team and teach us to work together. Daily personal devotions, team prayer times and evening rallies are also part of our training.

I hope to bring home pictures of me holding a Koala bear and feeding Kangaroos out of my hand—proof I really have been to Australia! Thanks to you, my church, for the large part you have played in making this trip possible for me. I will be returning August 17th.

(Brian will be serving under Teen Missions, International. This summer there will be 1,600 teens and 230 Team leaders involved in evangelistic and work teams taking the gospel around the world.

  Myron

Luke Shenk: We are part of a team of twelve youth and adults from the Huntington Mennonite Church in Newport News, Virginia traveling to Puerto Rico on June 22. We will be doing fix-up construction on a school and returning home June 29.

Emily Urso: As some of you already know, I'm going to Camp Hebron which is in Halifax, Pennsylvania for the summer. I will be leaving June 1st and I'm not exactly sure when I'll be returning as I might stay longer than planned if I am needed. While I'm there I will be teaching kids who have come for horse camp how to ride horses Western and/or English, giving trail rides, and doing anything that has to do with the horses, as far as their care. When I first get there I will be trained to teach kids how to ride horses. Then before the actual camp starts we’ll have a weekend when disabled and retarded kids and their families come and do all kinds of activities. The staff will each pair up with a child and be a buddy. I will also be helping out with that. The camp runs June 9th through August 14th.

Brenda White will be part of a mission team of youth and adults from Calvary Community Church in Hampton, Virginia traveling to South Africa. They will be visiting many local congregations where they will be helping with teaching and ministering.

Misty Yoder: I will be leaving May 29th to be spend the summer teaching English to German Mennonites in Camp 105 that lies northwest of the city of Cuauhtemoc, Mexico, which is two hours west of Chihuahua city. There are roughly 200 people in this camp, and approximately 50,000 Mennonites throughout the valley. Most of these people are farmers, though cheese manufacturing is a common business.

We will be living in a primitive cinder block building, used by the regular teachers throughout the school year. We will have electricity, of which I’m very thankful! The school is just a short walk from our house. We teach a morning class and an evening class per day and do the grading in between. It will be a very busy schedule.

Please remember me and the other teachers in your prayers. We are really going to need them! See you around the first of September.
