Given in Jesus' Name
"What shall I do? We have nothing; we cannot
even give tea to the men who carried away my father’s body." A
small token of love has turned into a mountain of health kits. Pretty
pieces of cloth—given, bought, asked for from furniture stores, and
cleaned out of grandma’s sewing reservoir—were cut and sewn into
8" x 10" bags. One friend went to a farm store (going out of
business), bought all their cord, and cut 24" pieces for
drawstrings. Another friend met managers of Walgreens, Walmart, and Sams
and purchased most of the items needed to fill the bags. Many
grandchildren spent hours stringing the bags with double string, often
thinking and talking about who would get this pretty one, and maybe
recognizing a garment made from some material.
Our Sunday School staff promoted the project, and
Lewis kindly reminded us to drop money into the baskets at the door as
we went through. We have sent off 500 bags at an average cost of $4.00
each! Jesus said, "If you have given in My name, you have given
unto Me."
