Health Kits

for MCC

We recently wrapped up the first Sunday School offering project, started at the beginning of the 2001-2002 year. Our goal was to help Mennonite Central Committee provide tens of thousands of health kits for Bosnia, Haiti, Palestine, North Korea, Russia and Ukraine. The kits are distributed to refugees, students in boarding schools, families experiencing economic hardships and people suffering from natural disasters.

Each kit was comprised of 1 hand towel, 1 squeeze-tube toothpaste, 1 toothbrush, 1 bar soap, and fingernail clippers all placed in a 8" X 11" drawstring bag.

Monies were collected, items were purchased and brought in, and the bags were put together with the help and cooperation of all the children's classes, their teachers and a few adult helpers. At final count we had completed 628 bags.

A big thank-you goes to the Women's Outreach for cutting out many of the bags and to Bertha Schaefer for diligence and persistence in sewing together all of the 628 bags.

If you are ever in the Walgreens on Midlothian Turnpike across from Village Market Place, make an effort to look up the manager, Mr. Tye, and thank him for his help in ordering many of the items in bulk and at generous discounts. He was a great help.

Thanks to everyone who participated in making this such a successful project. Let's keep it up for our current Penny Power Project helping MCC get water to Brazil, Mozambique and Nicaragua.
