From the Pastor's Heart...

Life’s Adjustments

The summer of 2011 is quickly coming to an end. It's hard to believe how fast the summers seem to slide by these days. Some of our kids are heading off to college while many of our children are gearing up for another year of school.  A never-ending mantra continues to shout to us: The one sure thing about life is that it will change.  I think the same applies to a church. Some of those changes are good, while others seek to destroy the truths that we hold from scripture. A fellowship will always battle with changes and go through adjustments just as we do as individuals.

One of the changes we are anticipating at PMC is the beginning of a building program. The donated 80’ x 100’ building is sitting on the ground waiting to be raised in its new “home.” After unanimously voting to accept the Concept Phase, we ran aground waiting for completed drawings so we could continue on to the Design Phase. However, we believe God’s timing is in this, and we want to move forward with His blessing.

You may be wondering where we are with the building plans. The next phase is part one of the Design Phase, which is the drawings for the site plan. Once these drawings are completed, the congregation will again be asked if we can affirm the site plans; then we can begin the process of county approval. After that, we can begin site work which will include all the parking lot and the preparation needed for the building addition. While that is going on, part two of the Design Phase will continue. Part two will be all the drawings that are needed by the county so we can begin building.

If the Lord continues to lead us to move forward with this, we will enter into uncharted territory for many of us. How will we fare during a building period? Will we look back in five years and talk about how glad we are that we embarked on this?  As a leadership team, our obvious goal is that this will be a good thing in the life of our fellowship. We will certainly face new challenges, but that doesn’t diminish our enthusiasm for moving forward. We are trusting that God can empower us to do impossible things and that the building process will bring glory to God.

Changes will take place in our personal lives and in the life of PMC, but we can take great comfort in knowing that God is aware and wants to be involved in all of those changes. So we ask the hard questions and continue to pray that we will be following His will. And as we make decisions, we should be able to proclaim, as the early church leaders did in Acts, “It seems right to us and the Holy Spirit. . . .”  Through the next stages of our personal lives and our fellowship, may we reflect Jesus Christ in all that we do.  It's all about Him!
