MENNONITES IN THE CONFEDERACY, Samuel Horst A study in Civil War Pacifism

This is the story of a group who dared to question the basic premise of the Confederacy, the right to rebel, in the period when the Confederacy was fighting for its very life.

Samuel Horst’s findings are a needed reminder of the quiet heroism of those few who were willing to stand steadfast for peace in the midst of the hate and carnage of war.

ADVENTURES OF AN ARCTIC MISSIONARY    MIK-SHROK (Book One)

The year is 1950 and Alaska Territory is still a vast wilderness, unsettled and unexplored. Steve and Liz Bailey arrive at the small town of Koyalik with troubling questions. What has happened to Peter, the veteran missionary? How can they work with the Eskimos when they don’t know the country and can’t speak the language?

If only they had a dog team, Steve thinks, they could haul their own wood and water and perhaps travel to other villages. He and Liz pray for a good team of huskies, and the Eskimos watch to see what the white man’s God will do.

THE FIRST WOMAN DOCTOR, by Rachel Baker The Story of Elizabeth Blackwell, M.D.

"I’m going to be a doctor," young Elizabeth Blackwell tells her family. She knows it won’t be easy. In 1840, there were no women doctors in America, but Elizabeth was raised to think for herself.

Despite the odds, Elizabeth did become a doctor. By pursing her own dreams, she gave other women the chance to become doctors.
