Keeping In Touch... with Ed and Doris
Ranck
| Since we made our decision to come to Alabama
over a year ago, we have been in the moving mode, first from the farm in
Powhatan and then, two weeks to the day from when we arrived at the We
Care apartment, the business manager informed us that the building
had been sold and we had to be out by April 1st. Though we knew when
we arrived here that there was a possibility that the building may be
sold we were thinking in terms of months or years, certainly not weeks.
We Care has purchased 10 acres of land about 3
miles from its former property and has set up a double-wide for Doris and
me along with the young adult staff which will be helping with the
chaplaincy program. |

We Care has also purchased a residence nearby
to use as offices until the new headquarters building is complete,
hopefully in the next year and a half. The plans for the new
building include, along with offices and a large kitchen/dining room
complex, an apartment for the host couple and hotel style rooms for single
staff that may come to serve here and a bunk room for larger groups to be
used for workers who come for various projects and during Crusade.
For now, the double-wide is home and Doris is busy unpacking and
decorating to make it a restful place. We are far from
Powhatan but
not
hard to find.
Visitors are welcome!

Helping the Rancks Move
| Wednesday, March 22,
at 8 PM, two wide- eyed guys headed out of Virginia for a far away land
some 800 miles away, called Atmore, Alabama. Tim Kennell & Don Benson
loaded Don’s new truck and trailer with a tractor, pick-up truck,
scraper blade, lawnmower and a three wheeler.
Ed & Doris Ranck were the waiting recipients at the other end
of the trip. After driving all night, sometime the next morning around
11AM, two weary-eyed guys pulled into the We Care Prison Ministries. It
was so good to see Ed & Doris again. It was priceless to see Ed’s
face as he jumped in his pick-up and drove it off the trailer.
He looked right at home! Then he jumped on the tractor and sure
enough, he still knew how to run it like a pro. They were very
appreciative to have more of their stuff to help them with the ministry. |

We (Don & Tim)
put the pick-up to use right away. The next day we went to town and bought
a pile of lumber and began building a deck on the front of We Care’s new
double wide home where Ed & Doris were moving into. After we finished
most of that, the next day we started working on the deck behind the
house. Although tired, we had so much fun and we were glad to get these
decks far enough along that they could easily finish the rest themselves.
Sunday evening Ed took us
into the prison. We separated and spent time just talking to the men. Then
at 7PM we went to the Chapel where about 22 men had gathered for the
service. We had a good time worshipping together with them that evening.
We headed back to the house, loaded our stuff into the truck and pointed
it toward Virginia. |
|
Sometime the next
morning, we wearily climbed out of the cab, glad to be back home and
grateful to God for His unfailing mercy for a safe a prosperous trip.
What a blessing Ed
& Doris are to many people as they minister under We Care Prison
Ministries. It is truly an honor for PMC to support them and to see God at
work in their own lives as well. Please continue to pray for them.
