Just Like Mommy Imitate me just as I imitate Christ. I Corinthians 11:1 Two-year-old Emily was pretending to serve Grandma tea. Her "Little Tikes" kitchen has a charming miniature stove, microwave, sink and refrigerator set. It’s stocked with an assortment of pretend foods, dishes, pans, cups, spoons, dishrag and potholder. She deftly moved from setting the table to removing eggs from the refrigerator, washing dishes in the sink and pushing pretend buttons on her microwave. In between, her dolly received comforting hugs and loving. Emily was clearly imitating Mommy. As I watched her, my heart filled with gratitude for the godly role model my granddaughter is privileged to have. Impressionable young Emily is learning to be a wife and mommy. Paul had a clear understanding of what it meant to follow Christ. He had a mid-life crisis when he met Jesus. The valiant Saul became servant Paul. No longer could Saul pretend to play church, as he had been taught in the Pharisaical school. Paul became willing to follow Christ regardless of the cost; he was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. The author of Hebrews wrote, "And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises." (Hebrews 6:11-12). Who do I imitate? It has been said that we may be the only Bible the world will ever read. Will the world know that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior? Thank you God for the many godly role models who have deeply influenced my life. |
