From the Pastor’s Heart .........

I saw a T-shirt the other day that said, "It is easier to wear a cross around your neck than to carry it on your back." The point is that just because someone wears a necklace with a cross on it doesn't mean Jesus is master of his or her life. I find that God is the popular subject in concurrence with funerals, marriages and other monumental occasions. But let’s face it, for most people this world over, the name Jesus rarely gets mentioned in a normal day’s work. Rather than denying God, most will put Him in a category in their life and may talk religious from time to time. Maybe even wear a necklace with a cross on it. And when people find out that I am a pastor, suddenly they become religious. How easy to talk religious if the occasion calls for it.

So what about us born-again Christians? Does the name of Jesus get mentioned from us as we live each day? Let us look for opportunities to talk about the One to whom we have given our life. God's word reminds us to imitate Christ, to be Christ-like. And that surely is more than just talking religious jargon.

1 Peter 1:15, "But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct." Ephesians 5:1, "Therefore be imitators of God as dear children." Knowing Jesus and being indwelt with the Holy Spirit will affect our conduct. It affects how we do business. It affects the music we listen to and the programs we watch on TV. It affects our words and actions. Knowing Jesus empowers us to live differently, not just talk religiously.

Quote for the month

Humility is not just the absence of pride, but it is Christ emanating from us in every situation, especially the difficult ones.

For in easy situations even unbelievers can act right.
