Evening on the Lawn - 2009

We held the event Sunday evening, September 27, 5:30-7:30 PM.  It was an absolutely beautiful evening with a mild breeze.  It was perfect weather after having 3.4 inches of rain on Friday and Saturday.  Brett Klingenberg was our warm-up and he started playing and singing at 5:15.  At 5:35 Pastor Tim introduced Brett and Daphna Creek from Harrisonburg . Daphna gave two 40 minute performances with Brett doing 20 minutes during their break.

Brett honored Gene’s 60th birthday at the beginning of his second session.  He called Gene to the stage with Ryan who was wearing a T-shirt with a IH tractor that said, “Like grandpa-like grandson”.  Ryan gave his grandpa a T-shirt that said, “Crops are green, tractors are red!”  He had everyone sing “Happy Birthday” and then he sang “Thank God, I’m A Country Boy”.

We had approximately 200 people.  We started serving Bruster’s ice-cream, toppings, popcorn and lemonade soon after the program began.  It was a fun evening, enjoyed by all.  We are looking forward to next year!

Daphna Creek

Gospel/bluegrass band from the Harrisonburg, VA area.

Bret Klingenberg

A former member of the “Possum Boys”, a gospel/bluegrass band in Kansas

You can listen to 3 of their originals on YouTube.  Search for “Klingpossum”.  He and his brothers wrote and performed “Possum in the Barn”, “Bubblebees in the Hay” and “Bailout”.  These are very cute and funny.  Enjoy!
