  Did You Know...

  • Connie Lancaster retired June 16 from driving a school bus for Chesterfield County Schools. Wonder how many children she has hauled these 33 years.

  • Obie Arrington is attending John Tyler Community College this year. Obie’s name was omitted in an earlier listing of our college students.

  • Heather Moyer and Stuart Hatter were married October 20, 2001, at Bethesda Church of God. Heather is the daughter of Ray and Donna Moyer, Powhatan, and Stuart is the son of of Dennis and LuAnne Hatter, Stuarts Draft, Va. They will be living at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Moyer family was very active in our church at PMC for many years.

  • Ray and Betty Hertzler along with twelve other family members worked for MCC in the Material Resource Center at Akron, PA, November 8-10. They did a variety of things, such as baling comforters which were being sent to Afghan refugees, sorting used clothing, checking health kits, and assembling sewing kits. A company in New Holland had given MCC 10,800 pairs of flannel pajamas they could not sell, and the volunteers unpacked some of them and repacked sizes small, medium and large so they could be baled for shipment. All of the xlarge and xxlarge were cut up to make other usable items. On Wednesday Ray and Betty’s family joined the MCC personnel for morning devotions; included in this time was a prayer of dedication for the 2001-02 meat canning crew. The four young men and the canner left the following morning. The Hertzlers and their family enjoyed being involved in MCC’s relief mission work.

  • Carl and Linda Duncan took a cruise to the Western Caribbean October 21-28 to celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary. They had a really good time and enjoyed seeing Mexico, Jamaica and the Grand Cayman Islands.

  • Andy Powell is grateful for a roommate, Kyle Michener, who arrived November 1 from PA. Andy says, "Kyle likes cleaning and doing dishes, which I hate. I like cooking, which he doesn’t like, so we get along great!" In a recent phone call to his mom, he informed her they were making doughnuts. Poe reminded him you can’t make doughnuts unless it is snowing (family tradition). Andy said, "It is snowing. That’s why we are making doughnuts!" They had nine inches of snow, and the day time highs are now around 24 degrees. He says now he needs to purchase some real winter clothing!

"Women on a Journey to the Heart of God"

A number of ladies from our congregation attended the annual Mennonite Women's Retreat, October 26-28th at the Holiday Inn on Midlothian Turnpike in Richmond. Cynthia Heald spoke on "Women on a Journey to the Heart of God; The Only Worthy Destination, Perservering on the Journey and Flying First Class." The First Mennonite Church in Richmond and PMC co-sponsored the Sunday morning continental breakfast. The retreat was a refreshing time of praise, worship, prayer and fellowship.

Ten Thousand Villages provides vital, fair income to Third World people

by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America.
