Just As I Am By Janet Benson - July, 2000 Just as I am, don't let me be

minute more, Help me, Dear Father,
Precious God, Christ the Lamb, Paul Nice Goes to World Series Family times are very special, and this past summer our family spent a lot of time going to baseball games. Having five boys takes us to lots of sporting events, but little did we know that this summer would take us all the way to Texas!
(Paul with his trophies!) Ten-year-old Paul was part of the Powhatan Youth Athletic Association’s All Star Team, which was made up of 13 players selected from the division’s 80 players. They were undefeated in the District Tournament and went on to the state level of competition, which was held in Bedford, VA. The Powhatan team won the state title in Bedford by outscoring their opponents 55-25 and breaking or tying 10 tournament records. Paul had the honor of winning the state tournament’s batting title! The team then headed on to the Dixie World Series in Marshall, Texas. Paul experienced his very first plane ride, accompanied by Mom, while Dad and three other brothers drove and met them at the airport upon landing. Brother Timothy stayed behind because of high school football commitments. The World Series was a 12-team, double elimination tournament featuring the champions from 11 southeastern states. After losing 2 games, we headed back to our home state of Virginia, having experienced a wonderful, memorable time with many new friends. That was one of the biggest blessings—making so many friends with other community families. I think that God wants us to reach out wherever we find ourselves—even on the baseball field.
