Engaged

Ed and Doris Ranck of Powhatan Mennonite Church and Ed and Linda Carnahan of Powhatan Christian Fellowship are very happy to announce the engagement of their children, Jon Michael and Jaime Melissa.

Jaime graduated from The College of William and Mary with a degree in biology and an interest in veterinarian work. She, along with her mother, runs the pet shop, Critter Crazy, next door to Food Lion.

Jon continues work in farming and local and long-distance hauling. An August wedding is being planned

Obituaries

Wilbur Ingram Adams

   Wilbur, first-born son of Mel and Gertrude Adams went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2003. His devoted wife of 55 years, Frances Norton Adams, along with his son, Wilbur Clark, and daughter, Kathy Featherston, were by his bedside.

He was founder of New Hope Southern Baptist Church, where he served as trustee and deacon. For over 25 years he was a member of Fine Creek Baptist Church where he served as teacher, buildings & grounds superintendent and deacon.

One of Wilbur’s hobbies beside woodworking and repairing antiques was gardening. He is now a Master Gardener in Heaven.

Wilbur is also survived by four grandsons, Brian Adams, Michael Featherston, David Adams and Matthew Featherston and one granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Featherston.

A memorial service was held on April 17 at Fine Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

Yoder, Elizabeth

Lizzie Yoder, of Aroda, VA., died peacefully at Mountain View Nursing Home on May 22, 2003. She was born on November 28, 1921 in Kisciusko County, Indiana, daughter of the late Allen Yoder an Lydia (Troyer) Miller.

Lizzie is survived by seven sons and two daughters, Allen, Alvin, Lydia, Freeman, Jerry, Paul, Raymond, Esther and James and 35 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Gideon I. Yoder and two daughters, Edna and Betty.

Lizzie will be remembered for her zeal in sharing with others her love for God. She was also an avid quilter.

Funeral services were held at Powhatan Mennonite Church on Sunday, May 25, with interment in the church cemetery.

 

Did You Know......

  • Carmen Lehman will be graduating from Richmond Christian June 5. The graduation ceremonies will be held at Clover Hill Baptist Church. Carmen was recently voted by the students as the girl who best exemplified Christian character and leadership in her graduating class. This fall Carmen will be attending Liberty University in Lynchburg and majoring in nursing. Congratulations, Carmen!

  • Nathan Landis will graduate with a one-year certificate from Rosedale Bible College May 22.

  • Michael Featherston and Brian Ranck will graduate June 14 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. This graduation ceremonies is sponsored by Home Educators of VA for homeschoolers. Brian is working for Nice Construction and Micheal works for Feathertson Lawn Care.

  • Timothy Nice will be graduating from Powhatan High School June 14. He looks forward to working for Nice Construction and racing at Southside Speedway.

  • Dave, Linda, Dwayne and Dale Benson moved into their new home Wednesday, May 7. Their care group showed up to help and brought along refreshments.

  • Kevin Hertzler and Sidney Moyer spent two weeks (April 25-May 7) camping and traveling to the west coast. They had a good time and got in turbulent weather in Tennessee but were grateful to miss the tornadoes.

  • Spring gobbler season was very good for the Lukes. Luke Shenk shot his first, an 18 pounder. He said one hair on the beard was 10-1/2" but he is calling it a 10"! Luke Landis got his second, a 20 pound gobbler with a 9-1/2" beard and 1-1/4" spurs.
