Youth Sunday School Stretch

Our Youth Sunday School class, which now involves fifteen students, has undertaken a new class format which will both focus and broaden student activities.

Each Sunday’s class work will include two studies; a review of a chapter of Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Life and a chapter study in When Worldviews Collide by Dr. Ergun M. Caner, Dean of the Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia.  Each Sunday, as a class starter, students turn to the assigned chapter in PDL and work in their personal journals, copying the memory verse and answering the life-changing question at the end of the chapter.

Then the class turns discusses the assigned chapter in WWC, which they have studied at home through the week.  WWC is a study of the Christian walk in comparison to world religions and thought systems which enables students to learn more about our own faith and how to witness effectively in today’s world.   We discuss key questions and statements in the assigned reading.

Dr. Caner, author of WWC, came to our country from Turkey.  His father was a Muslim missionary to the U. S. and his family members were, of course, devout followers of Islam.  When Dr. Caner was a teen, a school friend witnessed to him over a long period of time.  Caner finally consented to visit the friend’s church and soon accepted Christ as Lord.  At that point his family disowned him.

The class is open to all youth interested in understanding the Christian walk and learning more about world religions.  Those who are interested may contact Pres or Carolyn Nowlin, class leaders.

Spiritual Renewal & Mission Awareness

 February 24-26, 2006

(Friday-Sunday)

   With Richard Showalter

We are eagerly looking forward to the weekend of February 24 when Richard and Jewel Showalter will be with us for a time of spiritual renewal and missions emphasis.  Formerly president of Rosedale Bible College, Richard is now president of Eastern Mennonite Missions.  The Showalters have served as missionaries in Kenya, Turkey, and Cyprus and as church planters in Ohio.  Jewel, a gifted writer and editor, has served as a hospital chaplain, speaker and retreat leader, and teacher at the Harrisburg Discipleship Training Center.  Currently, she assists in overseeing the Middle East/North Africa program for EMM.

Let us pray earnestly for Richard and Jewel as they prepare for our time together.

Services will be held Friday evening, Saturday morning, Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

 -Watch for more details-

Note: There is a very good article on Eastern Mennonite Mission’s web site, www.emm.org that Richard wrote about missions in China.
