Rosedale Chorale in Top Form

(Renel Kennell is on the first row-far left)

On Wednesday evening, April 5, the Rosedale Bible College Touring Choir once again made a place in our hearts as they shared a wonderful program of music and worship to a full house in our auditorium.

The program carried a full range of instrumental and vocal music.  Our own Renel Kennell plays a major part in the choir, making instrumental and voice contribution to their concerts.

The program ran the gamut from works by Thomas Tallis to Dottie Rambo to Groce to African American sources.  One very real strength of the program was its diversity as bound together by brief but helpful comments by Ken Miller, the director.  He placed each piece into context for the audience by his commentary.

Mr. Miller’s wife Jenny served as concert designer, and her work also gave the concert a wholeness.  Often a concert seems to be a buffet in which the spinach has little to do with the dessert.  This concert, however, presented itself a fully served plate with an invitation to enjoy a dinner prepared by a fine chef.

One particular piece, billed as “for the children,” was a very engaging composition by Ken Miller.  He composed original music and staging for the third chapter of the prophecy of Daniel.  The parts were well played and sung by the chorus who took the opportunity to “ham it up.”  I suspect this piece was enjoyed as much by the adults as it was by the children.

There was also a nice nostalgic touch as Mr. Miller invited Rosedale Chorus alumni to come to the front and join in singing Millard’s “Abide With Me, ‘Tis Eventide.”  Bev Kennell, Glen and Carol Landis, Nathan Landis, Sheila Schaefer and Pat Hertzler responded to the invitation.
