Men’s Saturday Fellowship

June 19-August 14, 2010

7:00 AM at the church

We tend to view God as we view our earthly Fathers, attributing to Him the characteristics of our dads.  In the book The Good and Beautiful God we learn scriptural truths about how Jesus views His Father and learn to love the God Jesus knows.  Join the men’s Bible study the next nine weeks as we study this subject.

Contact Ed Ranck (721-5389) for more information or to order a copy of the book.

Nowlins traveling to Israel…

Pres and Carolyn Nowlin have been given the opportunity to spend two weeks in Israel as part of the group “Let’s Go up to Zion 2010.”  The trip will be a combination of tourism, spiritual seeking, and service.  The Nowlins are looking forward to seeing ancient sites that are so abundant in Israel and to being in places where Jesus spent His life.

They will visit the Tel Aviv area for three days, Haifa for a day, Galilee and the sea of Galilee three days, and Jerusalem seven days.  Pres will lead the group’s worship at the Galilee.

Luke Landis called to be Elder

The congregation has affirmed Luke’s call to serve a four-year term as elder, retroactive to January 2010.  Luke has been in a “Paul-Timothy” relationship with Pastor Tim this past year and has attended elder meetings.   When asked about his call, Luke offered the following reflections:

When the congregation was asked to submit names for the elder position, someone came to me and asked if I wanted to be an elder. I said, "Well, not really; but if God wants me to be an elder, I want to do it." I guess there is part of me that wants life to be easy, but there is a stronger voice, coming from my relationship with Christ, that says I want to follow God's leading even if it looks hard or scary. I have seen God's hand in this and have a peace about the decision I made to serve as elder. Meeting with the Spiritual Leadership Team over the past year has been a good experience and will make an easier transition to the new role as elder. The trust and support from Spiritual Leadership and the congregation mean a lot to me. I take the responsibility seriously, and with the Lord's help I will do my best to lead in humility. I am excited to see God's continued work in my life and at PMC!

Spiritual Leader team: Tim Kennell (Pastor), Sid Moyer (Head Elder), Miles Pruett, Sam Powell and Luke Landis.

Shultzes Complete Term in Peru

The Shultz family, having completed one year of language study in Costa Rica and six years of service in Cusco, Peru, will be arriving back in the States on June 24.  Parents Dave & Nancy Moyer and Harold & Alma Shultz plan to meet them at Dulles Airport around noon.  It is with mixed emotions that the Shultzes say good-bye to their friends in Peru and anticipate reconnecting with family and friends at home.  We look forward to welcoming them to Powhatan on Sunday morning, June 27.  They will be in Powhatan approximately a week before heading to Ron’s home in PA.

Pray for the Shultzes as they look for housing in the Harrisonburg area and finalize job opportunities. Hannah, Jeremiah, and Bethany will be enrolled at Eastern Mennonite School.
