Care Groups There are seven care groups that meet twice a month for fellowship, worship
and nurture. This year they have
been studying the book How
Can I Change?
by C.J. Mahaney and Robin Boisvert; a study on how to have victory in our
struggle against sin. Care groups are designed to encourage persons in their walk with God and to
be accountable to a smaller, more
intimate fellowship of people. Since
this is replacing the traditional Wednesday evening services, the elders are
encouraging everyone to become a part of a “care group”.
New groups will be forming January 1st.
For more information or to become involved in a group contact Ed Ranck or
Tim Kennell. Listed below are the seven leaders with their groups: · Louie/Helen Burkholder :
Members are Frances
Adams, Marie Hardy, Bob/Marie Hertzler, Lillian Hertzler, Wayne/Connie
Lancaster, Peggy Leeth, Wally/Dorcas Schaefer, Karl/Wanda Starke, Vernon/Frances
Weaver and Alice White. This
group enjoys a good time with lots of laughter when they meet.
Their evening starts with stories,
jokes, travel tales or what is happening in their personal lives.
They always end with
“good’ refreshments. At
the beginning they referred to
themselves as the “Old Timers” until some in the group rebelled! · Bill/Karen Iazzi: Members are Stephanie
Broughton, Steve/Anita Graber, Keith/Viv Hertzler, Miles/Sharon Pruett,
and Gene/Lorrie Schaefer. Bill
says, “We are unique in the fact that we have more children than we do
adults!” They have done a variety
of things including watching a video, having meals together and a night of all
worship with singing and instruments.
Sometimes Bill will read a story to the children and have a lesson on it.
The adults enjoy it as much as the children. · Tim/Bev Kennell -
Young Adults Group: Members are Nathan/Luke Landis, Jennifer Howren,
Sidney Moyer, Andy/Amanda Powell, Ben Powell, Beth/Rusty Yoder. This
group not only meets every other week but also the fifth Wednesdays.
Tim says, “They are young and full of questions-serious life questions.
We deal with tough stuff, but it is good,
and it is one of the highlights of what I do.” · Ron/Rosalie Moyer:
Members are Jerry/Patty Critcher, Tommy/Susie Gonzalez,
Ray/Betty Hertzler, Vernon/Christina Moyer, Sam/Dorothy Powell, Janis Ranck and
Iris Sassine. “I’m
Pressing On the Upward Way” has been the theme song for this group.
They have celebrated a
housewarming for Tommy & Susie and Vernon & Christina.
Another highlight has been a cookout. · Pres/Carolyn Nowlin:
Members are Auldine McKinley, Dave/Linda Benson, Gene/Pat
Hertzler, Sam/Poe Powell, Bill/Bertha Schaefer, Ron/Regina Shultz, and
John/Paige Spiller. Want to
know how many ways a group can eat?
Ask this group! This group
enjoys getting together for fellowship, fun and food so much
they decided they just as
well bring “supper” snacks. Three
highlights were a Peruvian supper (guests, Dave/Nancy Moyer), a chicken barbeque
(guest, Debbie Fretz ) and a formal supper to celebrate Carolyn Nowlin’s
retirement from teaching. For the
serious side of their meetings, they have enjoyed singing
from the old “Life Songs” and sharing together in prayer. · Ed/Doris Ranck:
Members are Paul/Helen Brenneman, Dale/Martha Bowles,
Renel Kennell, Glen/Carol Landis, and
Shane Stoner. This
group chose the song “I’m Pressing on the Upward Way” as their theme song
for the year. They have enjoyed
several evenings of singing with a
variety of musical instruments and a work night
at Martha Bowles’. · Frank/Debbie Vaughn:
Members are Ivan/Joyce Lehman, Dave/Nancy Moyer, Dickie/Brenda
Walton and Jack/Lillian Wilson. The men
in this group take turns leading the Bible Study.
Debbie says, “It has been really positive to share the leadership in
this way. It has taken the pressure
off one person.” Each
leads for two weeks and they meet at the home of the person who is
leading. They always enjoy
refreshments. |
