Wow! I must be
doing something right for once. As I read Larry Burkett’s Renting Your
First Apartment he stated that if you don’t have to move out....don’t.
Living at home is the cheapest place to live. Stay at home and save your money.
( I guess I still have some work to do.) This was a pretty cool book. Simple,
yet informative. Mr. Burkett has some very good advice on what to look for when
you want to get your own place, what to expect from the prospective landlord,
and what the landlord will expect from you. He covers having a roommate,
budgeting. leases, and even possible damage to the apartment. He gives a good
Christian perspective to looking for an apartment.

I would highly recommend the book Buying
Your First Car by Larry Burkett for anyone thinking in that direction. Even
if you have bought a car before, the book gives suggestions for dealing with car
salesmen, finding the worth of the car, and tips for keeping your car in good
shape. I was surprised at how much information was in such a small book. It
walks you through every step of the buying process from "Do I need
one?" to "Can I afford one?"’ and then through deciding how to
pay for it, what kind to get, and whether to buy new or used. The book was a
good reminder for me that when you see if you can afford a car, you have to take
into account weekly fuel costs and repairs, depending on how old of a car you
just bought!

Getting your First Credit
Card by Larry Burkett gives many helpful points about credit, debit and
charge cards. It explains both the good and bad things about each card. I
personally thought that this book gave very good information about the
responsibilities and temptations that come with "paying with
plastic"!! I would recommend every young adult to read this before getting
their first card.
