Adult Sunday School Team

The Adult Sunday School Team mission is “to provide adult Christian education opportunities in the Church.”  To that end, John and Janet Habel, Joyce Lehman, Glen Landis, and Pres Nowlin are working together on the team.  At a later date, a member of the Spiritual Leadership Team will be added to the Adult Sunday School Team.

The team serves four regular Sunday school classes: the adult men, adult women, young adult, and the youth.  The adult men’s and adult women’s classes are served by a rotation of teachers who have volunteered to teach.  Luke Landis is teaching the young adult class, and Pres and Carolyn Nowlin are teaching the youth class.  The team supplies regular lesson materials for all the classes.

The church library is a part of the team’s work and is being managed by John and Janet Habel.  Because the library is not currently used as much as they would like, the Habels plan innovations to make it more useful in the work and life of the congregation.  They would appreciate any suggestions concerning the library.

Elective Sunday school classes are being studied and planned.  Background for the class “Christians in China” will be provided by the DVD “The Cross – Jesus in China.”  Brady Hochstetler will moderate the class and provide insight from his own experience in China.  The first session for this class will be April 6.

A second planned elective will start on April 27 under the direction of Glen Landis.  The class will be reading and discussing C. S. Lewis’s “Mere Christianity."

The Restructure Team is considering a broadening of the Adult Sunday School Team’s work beyond the Sunday school.  If that change takes place, the team will become the “Adult Christian Education Team” with the additional responsibility for implementation of educational opportunities at times other than Sunday morning.  This might include discipleship training, book studies, visiting teachers, and winter Bible school.

The team is open to suggestions concerning their work.  They are also seeking new members who will undertake the assessment of new educational opportunities and take part in the team planning.  Also, people are encouraged to talk with the team about courses they might like to lead or see offered in the church.

Coming up soon…...

A C. S. Lewis Reading Course will be offered on Sunday mornings from 10:00-10:45 starting on Sunday, April 27.  The class will be reading “Mere Christianity”, a transcription of C. S. Lewis’s lectures that were broadcast in England.  In the lectures he attempted to spell out the basics of Christianity for a secular radio audience.  Many people have come to saving faith while reading the book.  Others have been wonderfully taught in the faith through while reading “Mere Christianity.”  Glen Landis will lead the discussion of the book.  A signup sheet will be available in the fellowship hall.  Students of all ages are invited to participate in the class.  When you sign up, indicate if you want the Sunday School Team to order the book for you ($9.75 new and $7.00+ for used copies).  The book is also available at Barnes & Noble.  Contact Pres Nowlin or Glen Landis for more information.
